EPDItaly, the Italian Programme Operator, has included in its Regulations the possibility of developing multiple LCA studies for products for the purpose of publishing different EPDs, using a single calculation model (algorithm). This methodology stems from the progressive and continuous evolution of production methods in the construction sector and makes it possible to optimise time while ensuring the verification of many different products through a single tool.
The calculation algorithm, based on the same LCA model, makes it possible to determine the different environmental impacts of products as the input data change. These data are provided by the manufacturer using the tool, known as the LCA Tool. The verification of the corresponding EPDs is therefore simplified, as there is no need to verify the previously validated calculation model each time.
An EPD is one of the methodologies accepted under the Minimum Environmental Criteria (CAM) Decree to demonstrate compliance with its requirements and has become an integral part of day-to-day production processes, adapting to the evolving needs of the market.
