Who chose EPDItaly tells its story: Bossong Spa

5 questions to Valerio Ruggeri, Technical Manager of Bossong Spa, a leading manufacturer and marketer of mechanical and chemical anchors.

What are the main motivations that pushed you toward voluntary EPD certification?

Bossong has always been committed to the quest for continuous improvement of its products, and today more than ever environmental issues are in the forefront, especially in terms of resource use/waste. A great many materials that are used in industry can be subject to reuse, but it all starts with proper product management and disposal. For this reason, our production departments are equipped with systems that work to minimize waste and energy resources, and organized in order to comply with laws and regulations regarding the proper disposal of products and related packaging material. To give tangible feedback of this constant work, we thought the EPD was the right tool. Thanks to the EPD, we can now communicate to our customers the environmental performance of our products, which represent the fruit of Bossong’s many and consistent investments over the years on environmental issues.

Which product of your company has obtained EPD? What are its main features?

We decided to obtain EPD on our full range of chemical anchors. We have included both entry-level products such as our BCR POLY SF chemical anchor ideal for medium and light loads, but also professional products for structural application and service life of 100 years such as BCR V-PLUS vinylether and BCR E-PLUS epoxy. Our range of chemical anchors is qualified in accordance with the latest EOTA guidelines, with special emphasis on seismic qualifications.

What are the main benefits gained from the publication of the Environmental Product Declaration? What are the impacts on the end user?

Thanks to obtaining the EPD, the end consumer, in our case we are talking primarily about construction companies, has the possibility of using chemical anchors with absolute mechanical performance combined with environmental characterization. Undoubtedly this combination is winning today, especially in order to meet the requirements of large works both in Italy and abroad.

Do you think EPDItaly can help spread the culture of product sustainability?

We certainly do. We know that EPDItaly is one of the most active and recognized Program Operators, which is why it was chosen by our company.

How important, in your opinion, is the presence of Italian sustainable products within a Program Operator that makes international networking one of its strengths?

It is very important to have a platform from which designers can draw and select products with certified environmental performance.
