Those who chose EPDItaly share their story: Falegnameria F.lli Bozzarelli

Vera Bozzarelli, Finance Manager

Falegnameria F.lli Bozzarelli is active in the production of wooden doors and windows, with an approach based on the quality of raw materials, care for the production process, and attention to the technical performance of the finished product.

Based in the province of Piacenza, the company operates by integrating artisanal skills and advanced processing technologies, with precise control over all production phases—from material selection to the manufacturing and installation of the fixture. This approach allows them to develop custom solutions with high quality standards and an increasing focus on environmental aspects.

In this journey, the Emilian company decided to rely on EPDItaly to obtain an EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) for its production of wooden window frames in 68 and 80 mm configurations, adopting a tool capable of measuring and making the environmental impact transparent throughout the entire life cycle of the product.

To this end, we interviewed Vera Bozzarelli, Financial Manager, who told us about the motivations behind this choice, the benefits obtained from publishing verified environmental data, and the role of EPDItaly in a market increasingly attentive to transparency and sustainability.

What are the main motivations that pushed you toward voluntary EPD certification?

Our company has long believed in sustainability, as demonstrated by our use of FSC® certified wood. The decision to embark on the EPD path was the natural evolution of this commitment. In a market saturated with greenwashing, we chose a scientific and objective tool to concretely demonstrate what we already do. EPD certification allows us to measure the environmental impact of our products through LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) analysis, transforming sustainability from an abstract value into certain and verifiable data.

Which of your company’s products have obtained the EPD? What are their main characteristics?

The certification covers our production of wooden window frames in thicknesses of 68 and 80 mm. These are solutions that guarantee high thermal and acoustic performance. The sustainability of these products starts with the choice of raw materials: in fact, we only use FSC® certified wood, guaranteeing responsible forest management, which is then analyzed through the EPD to map the entire life cycle of the fixture.

What are the main advantages obtained from the publication of the Environmental Product Declaration? What are the effects on the final consumer?

The EPD is not just a technical document, but also a useful tool for communicating the environmental characteristics of our products in a transparent way. For us, it represents a strategic element for market positioning, both towards industry professionals and final consumers. The availability of verified data allows us to respond to sustainability-related requests and to access more advanced design contexts, such as those related to sustainable architecture and large tenders, where protocols like LEED or BREEAM require certified environmental information.

Do you think EPDItaly can contribute to spreading the culture of product sustainability?

Certainly. EPDItaly shifts the comparison from advertising messages to concrete data. This promotes greater transparency and comparability: knowing that the environmental impact is public and comparable pushes us to improve, making sustainability a concrete lever for innovation in the sector.

How important is the presence of sustainable Italian products within a Program Operator that makes the international network one of its strengths?

It is an important aspect for staying competitive. Integrating the quality of our products with an internationally recognized certification allows us to enhance our environmental commitment in foreign markets as well. In our case, this means combining product quality and craftsmanship with a measurable and verifiable dimension of sustainability. Being part of a global network allows us to provide visibility and credibility to Italian products in a context that is increasingly oriented toward shared standards.
