Lin Qiu, Deputy head of ESG Office, Envision Energy
What are the main motivations that pushed you toward voluntary EPD certification?
“Solving challenges for humanity’s sustainable future” has always been rooted in Envision’s business philosophy. From day one, sustainability has been embedded into our daily operations, as we both respond to and lead the global drive toward carbon neutrality. We are committed to using rigorous, science-based carbon footprint data to support the quantification and management of environmental performance.
As green procurement policies and regulatory requirements in international trade continue to grow, we aim to provide our customers with indisputable evidence of low-carbon value, enabling them to make more transparent and informed choices. Compared with corporate environmental declarations, EPDs deliver credible, third-party-verified data aligned with international standards. This offers our customers a solid and trustworthy foundation for ESG reporting and project bidding, significantly enhancing their market competitiveness.
As an industry pioneer, we strive to set a replicable model for the sector. By delivering Environmental Product Declarations and verifiable data, we provide benchmarks for similar products. At the same time, we aspire to lead collaborative decarbonization across the entire value chain, using standardized, verifiable data to demonstrate our reduced environmental impact, encourage greener development among suppliers through transparent data sharing, and jointly build a resilient, net-zero supply chain together.
What product(s) in your company has/have obtained EPD? What are its main characteristics?
This time, we obtained EPD certification for our mainstream wind turbine models, including EN-171/6.0/6.25/6.5 and EN-182/6.25. These turbines embody a full life-cycle design philosophy. Our R&D team prioritizes low-carbon and highly recyclable materials, and key components such as blades, gearboxes, generators, and bearings are all developed and manufactured in-house. The entire manufacturing process is powered 100% by renewable energy, ensuring the green, low-carbon concept is implemented end to end.
Meanwhile, Envision applies digitalization across R&D, manufacturing, and operations. Each turbine is equipped with the Galileo SuperSense System, the industry’s first digital twin platform for wind turbine asset health management, significantly extending product lifespan,  boosting power output while reducing the carbon footprint per kilowatt-hour.
What are the main benefits gained from publishing the Environmental Product Declaration? What are the expected effects on the market?
The EPD provides a clear, quantifiable baseline for product environmental performance, driving further progress in green design and supply chain management. Due to the unique PCR boundaries for wind turbines, it forms the foundation for calculating the carbon footprint not only of turbine lifecycles, but also of entire wind farms and broader green energy solutions.
Envision Energy has built a global digital energy and carbon management platform covering global sites, major products, and core supply chains. We utilized the carbon accounting and life cycle assessment (LCA) platform EnOS Ark to accurately measure and manage the carbon footprint of our products. At the same time, we are establishing a robust life cycle assessment database that meets international standards to improve data integrity and support transparent sustainability reporting.
We believe the release of our EPD will help customers improve the environmental performance of their projects. By working closely with customers, suppliers, and stakeholders, we aim to shift the industry’s focus from simple “product cost” to the “full life-cycle environmental cost”, guiding the market toward more sustainable procurement decisions and driving industry-wide progress.
How important, in your opinion, is the presence of sustainable products within a Program Operator (EPDItaly) that makes international networking one of its strengths?
This is particularly important. The EPD Italy platform reflects the rising global demand for a universal framework for sustainable products. By registering on this platform as part of an international network, we showcase the environmental performance and exceptional quality of our products, strengthening their appeal in markets with stringent sustainability requirements.
In today’s fast-evolving sustainability landscape, being part of this global network enables us to offer advanced products that meet rigorous international regulations and align with our customers’ expectations.
