The new EPDItaly Regulation Rev.7.1. has come into force
On 5 September 2025, the new EPDItaly Regulation Rev.7.1 came into force.
The main purpose of the EPDItaly Regulation is to provide a tool for the development, verification/validation and publication of Environmental Product Declarations, in which the Organisation can report environmental information related to the product or service provided.
The Regulations are reviewed every three years or upon market input, in order to adapt them to changing needs.
The main changes are as follows:
- Adaptation of the document in accordance with EN 15941 ‘Sustainability of construction works – Data quality for environmental assessment of construction products and works – Selection and use of data’ and ISO 14020 ‘Environmental declarations and programmes for products – General principles and requirements’, with consequent updating of the guidelines on data quality and the concepts of ‘raw data’, ‘specific data’, ‘generic data’ and ‘proxy data’.
- Elimination of the ±10% limit as a criterion for the inclusion of products in the average and sector EPD and update of the related definition.
- Revision of the definition of product-specific EPD, in order to regulate the creation of a specific EPD also for products manufactured entirely in multiple production sites and products with multiple sizes or formats.
- Introduction of the concepts of ‘Mass value’ and ‘Material properties’ as metadata for more complete digitisation.
- Clarification of the need to include the level of data quality achieved in the LCA and EPD reports.
- Formalisation of the possibility of accepting product certifications regarding recycled content in lieu of verification, if already present.
- Specifications for the validation of EPDs for products not yet manufactured (Annex 6), with guidelines for accredited Verification/Validation Bodies.
- Inclusion of verification/validation procedures governing the case of EPDs with EPD Own as the EPD.
Transition period from Regulation Rev.6 to Regulation Rev.7.1: from 1 October 2026, it will no longer be possible to publish EPDs in accordance with Regulation Rev.6.
