Suffice it to say that in 2025—the year of EPDItaly’s tenth anniversary—published EPDs exceeded 1,000.

The construction sector, which has always been ahead of other industries, dominates the ranking with 58% of EPDs, followed by the electrical/electronic sector. This leadership is not accidental; rather, it is part of a broader context of regulatory and digital transformation, currently accelerated by the entry into force of the new Construction Products Regulation (CPR) and the increasing dissemination of digital EPDs.

EPDItaly represents a reference hub for all designers wishing to know the environmental impacts of products. Within this scenario, it has established itself among the four main international Program Operators that possess a dedicated tool ("node") for the digitalization of product environmental impacts. Furthermore, it stands as the only Program that guarantees methodological rigor, independence, impartiality, and transparency, with the support of accredited Environmental Impact Verification and Validation Bodies.

At the beginning of 2026, the Eco-Portal featured more than 30,000 digitalized products, reflecting the ongoing transformation process within the construction industry: EPDs are no longer available just as static PDF documents, but represent actual environmental impact datasets.

The digitalization of EPDs responds to a clear market need: making environmental data easily readable, comparable, and integrable into the digital processes of the construction supply chain, from BIM to building life cycle assessment tools.

Digitalization carried out through the Eco-Portal brings numerous benefits:

international visibility of product environmental data;

a significant reduction in the effort required for data generation and reporting;

data sharing in a unique format (ILCD + EPD): this format combines the information contained in the EPD documentation (available in PDF format) with that required by the European Commission;

common rules for data use through the exchange of files in standard formats;

interaction, via dedicated APIs (Application Programming Interfaces), with the main software used for building LCA development;

the ability for users to use dedicated filters to identify: the language of the EPD, the country of origin, the manufacturer, the validity of the EPD, the reference Program Operator, and, above all, the type of data to be used (specific or average).

Thanks to these advantages, the digitalized EPD becomes a fundamental benchmark for designers involved in the LCA development of buildings or infrastructures, fostering a wider dissemination of environmental data for construction products.

This approach aligns with the new CPR which, while incorporating concepts like Life Cycle Assessment and strengthening the link with EN 15804, has introduced the concept of the Digital Product Passport (DPP). The DPP requires environmental information validated by a Notified Body to be available in a digital format.

Therefore, digital EPDs make it possible to:

support the operational implementation of the CPR;

facilitate dialogue among manufacturers, Notified Bodies, Program Operators, and authorities;

pave the way for integration with the DPP.

In this sense, EPDItaly's growth is not merely numerical, but systemic: the program positions itself as a trusted infrastructure in a context where EPDs are becoming key elements for business competitiveness.
EPDItaly aims to consolidate its role in the development and dissemination of digital EPDs to support the sustainable transition of the construction sector.

The role of EPDItaly in developing and widespreading digital EPDs to support the sustainable transition of the construction sector.

[15

post-100009510","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news
["GET
